When Jake Logan, a dashingly handsome Wall Street banker sets his target, he’s aware that Alice is not his usual type. At first Alice finds his displays of wealth vulgar but she’s won over by his warm charming, and at times vulnerable side. As challenges present themselves she finds making excuses for his hurtful unacceptable behaviour. Each time she is brought to a breaking point Jake ups the stakes reeling her in and increasing his hold. The emotional lows and highs keep the reader guessing and hoping for a happy ending Alice deserves. As one finds themselves engrossed in the relationship dynamics, the presence of Jake’s former fiancé develops an increasingly eerie quality. Jessica, a NY socialite, isn’t all that she appears to be on several accounts. The author builds a narrative of another complex female character albeit an ominous one.
It’s a captivating read that develops in surprising ways and makes one challenge their preconceived notions whilst enjoying all the hallmarks of a well-crafted romantic novel with plenty of glamour and sexual tension.
